Blogger email notifications

This new Blogger dashboard is driving me nuts!  Is anyone else having problems with it? Or is it just me?

I can't seem to do any of the simple things I managed to do with the old dashboard.

The one thing that is annoying me most is a problem with email notifications.  I previously had emails whenever someone commented on one of my posts.  It was so useful.  I'd press "publish" and then reply.  Easy peasy.

Now I get the occasional email when someone posts, but mostly I don't.  I only discovered this one day when I went to my dashboard and noticed a number of comments awaiting moderation.  They had been there for a couple of days so I'm sure my followers must have thought I was ignoring them.

When commenting on someone else's blog, I always click on the button which will send me an email when the blogger replies to my comment.   I don't get these at all now.   I thought I was being ignored and only discovered I wasn't when I went back to the blogs and trawled through the comments.

It's infuriating.  It's such a simple thing, but when you're busy with other things and you don't want to miss comments and responses, it made sure that you were kept up to date.

OK.  I'll admit I don't respond well to change.  But I do accept it if it improves things, and I eventually get used to it.  But I can't for the life of me see how this new dashboard actually improves anything.

Anyone else finding it difficult?

  1. Yes...inevitably!
And it is not so easy to see, either, orange bits in a waste of white.

  2. Yes, yes, yes!! It started to happen to me with my latest post, Ayak. I got some comments notified, but not all and yours was one of the ones which didn't get through. I've also had some of my replies to comments being bounced and not getting through to my inbox. SO annoying. I've posted a query on the Google Products Forums (notice how they are no longer called Help forums?) but given the number of people who can't even manage to post on their blogs, I doubt I'll get any response to it.

I do seriously loathe this new dashboard, as the formatting is all over the place, the Preview page doesn't actually show what the post will look like when published, etc, etc..... Let's hope Google is still working on improvements, otherwise I really may up sticks and move to WordPress.

  3. PS I haven't had problems so far with not getting notifications of replies on other blogs, but I reckon it's only a matter of time...

    1. Yes I wonder where this is all leading Perpetua. I can't understand why they couldn't have left well alone. It worked as it was.

I hope you get a response from the "Google Products Forum" (haha) because if you do I'm sure you will be able to explain it to me in a way I will understand.

    2. Ayak, I did some Googling after your reply and found that this has been an intermittent problem with Blogger for years. I guess we've just been lucky in the past.

    3. That's interesting Perpetua. You'd think they would try to resolve longstanding problems before changing everything else wouldn't you?

    4. You would, wouldn't you, Ayak? Now to cap it all, I've just had an email from my daughter to say that Blogger keeps eating her comment, when she tries to publish it. As she rarely has time to comment, this is really annoying!

    5. Ah yes Perpetua. This has also happened to me a couple of times and I've had to give up. Although I've been having internet connection problems for weeks so had put it down to that.

  4. I don't have this yet.....but I'm sure we will get it soon also.
Don't worry I hate change....sometimes I think to operate or use this new techy 'stuff' you almost have to be an educated engineer.

    Enjoy your day!

  6. obviously I've been so out of it I've totally missed this new blogspot glitch...I'll try to pay more attention. I have been getting emails...some in my Yahoo mail and some in my gMail. my big change worry was when they were going to MAKE us go to the Dynamic pages for our website...I don't like them as much as what we have now...but I'm sure the day is coming when we'll have to switch...now I have a new worry about notification of comments :( I don't do well with change either Ayak...let's face it...Don's been gone 3 years and I still haven't accepted that change. life changes to fast these days as it is...oh well I'll check my settings and watch my emails :D

    1. Hi Theanne. Nice to see you. It's hard to accept change, particularly those in our personal lives over which we have no control.I resent changes being forced upon me. It would be nice to have a choice sometimes.

I love getting comments, but don't feel obliged...I'm just happy you're reading my blog.
